Electronic Commerce (eCommerce) is one of the fastest growing and evolving economic sectors today. Building upon existing expertise and strengths in information technology, business and law, ORNEC focuses on the transformation of Ontario's strongest business clusters through eCommerce enabled practices.

ORNEC strives to be at the forefront of e-Commerce innovation, inter-disciplinary research and training. Recent industry shakeouts and consolidations signal the pressing need to tackle efficiently all issues challenging eCommerce and better direct research and development activities. ORNEC represents a timely response to that pressing need for R&D and knowledge transfer to Canadian businesses in order to help them increase productivity and maintain a competitive advantage over global players.

The knowledge generated within ORNEC´s pool of experts will be groundbreaking by its scope and span and by the multidisciplinary approach that is too often lacking in such endeavors. Innovation and breakthroughs in products, processes and services will come at a point of the economic cycle where innovation is crucial. In fact, ORNEC will be the only such research network in Canada and one of the very few in the world to have launched interdisciplinary studies on this scale.
